Get On Board With The Walking Bus

22nd December 2017
We have had lots of positive feedback from parents regarding the new car parking arrangements using the car
park at the Masonic Lodge at Middle Farm Court in Cramlington Village. The car park will open in the morning at 8.30a.m
and in the afternoon at 3.00p.m hopefully alleviating traffic congestion at peak times near Shanklea Primary School.

New surfacing, 21 marked bays and a drop-off area have been established which will support opportunities for stress-
free pick-up and drop-off arrangements, This project should improve parking facilities for parents and school visitors and

benefit parents, carers, staff and local residents.
A formal letting arrangement has been established with the Masonic Lodge to make a parking
area available from Monday to Friday each week during term time for use as a drop off area for
Shanklea students, and also for some staff parking.
The parking facility is around 250 metres from the school and can be accessed via a network of
footways and cycle paths, so the arrangements also serve to encourage
a healthy approach to travelling to school.
On Tuesday 9th January 2017, the scheme will be launched with a ‘morning’ walking bus. Our
Head Teacher, Mrs Brown and volunteers will walk with the children to school in an organised
group starting from the Masonic Hall, Cramlington) at a fixed time of 8.30a.m.
However, we need your help:
We need volunteers to help us get this programme underway at our school. If you care about
increasing the number of children who walk or bicycle to school in a safe manner, please

consider helping us lead the walking bus programme.
If you are interested in helping, please contact the School Office or head teacher for more information. Or fill out the form
below and return it to school with your child.
