Ofsted is Impressed

21st December 2018
Staff and pupils at Shanklea Primary School are celebrating
after Ofsted rated us very highly. In early December 2018,
we were inspected and are now pleased to be able to share
information within the official report with parents and the
We are very proud that under the new and harsher
inspection framework in operation since September 2018,
we have retained our overall grading as a ‘Good’ school.
We are exceptionally happy with the inspector’s very positive
comments despite the local authority rating us as
outstanding for the last 4 inspection visits!
Shanklea was complimented on its teaching being Good
with many areas that were outstanding. The inspectors
recognised that attainment is rising rapidly across all key
stages with progress rates in English and Mathematics
increasing. Ofsted bestowed high praise on Shanklea with
top ratings covering all aspects of school life including
teaching and learning, behaviour, progress, leadership,
and ethos. The inspection was a positive process, and one
in which the support of the whole school community was
recognised and praised. A common thread running
throughout the report is that teachers and staff know your
children well, and have built strong relationships with
them, allowing high expectations to be set for them.
Running an effective school is a real team effort and I am so
pleased that the report reflects the impact that all staff
across the school have on the children and the wider school
community. This community includes the school governors,
whose positive support of the school’s continuing
improvement journey is also reflected in the report.
We are also proud of the positive comments made about our
students who behave well, have very positive attitudes to
learning, are well mannered and respectful and
contribute well to the school by being role models and
buddies in the effective school pastoral system.
The inspection result is a proud testimony to the dedication,
enthusiasm, support, and professionalism of our wonderful
school family – pupils, families, staff and governors. There
was not one instance of negative feedback from any of our
children or our parents. They all praised Shanklea as a safe,
challenging and fun place in which to learn. Indeed, this
inspection is a brilliant platform for us to move onwards and
upwards at Shanklea, to meet new challenges and to aspire
