Homework continues to be a controversial topic so recent parental feedback on this matter is greatly appreciated. Particularly encouraging signs were that pupils enjoy a variety of types of homework and increasingly the focus of homework task was toward meaningful, creative, and high-level thinking endeavours... away from tedious busy work and drill.
Parental and pupil feedback will help enormously in the future with determining the type and quantity of homework to be assigned, and will allow some flexibility in the assignment and evaluation of homework. A statistical analysis of parental responses is accessible on the school website.
Year 5 and 6 children will be the first cohorts to trial the Reading homework e-learning programme ‘Acceleread’. Children will read a novel and then be quizzed about their understanding. We think the children will find it fun and engaging. We’ll keep you informed.
