Science Enrichment - Google Expeditions

3rd February 2017
On Thursday 9th February 2017, Shanklea pupils will become ‘Science Boffins’ - we are really excited because we will have virtual visitors…
This is all thanks to ‘Google Expeditions’ workshops, where the children have the opportunity to wear special headsets to experience different journeys in 3D virtual reality. There should be such excitement when each child is taken on a tour of the Aurora Borealis, the Great Barrier Reef and even into outer space!
On Friday 10th February 2017, the whole school will focus on scientific enquiry skills.
Each year group will conduct different scientific investigations
 Early Years children will consider how temperature and food affect living creatures
 Year 1 and 2 children will investigate transport and distances travelled.
 Year 3 and 4 children will investigate the science of movement through the air.
 Year 5 and 6 children will use mathematical techniques to design and make transportation for an object over a long distance..
We will make Science fun despite trying to sneak in elements of literacy, numeracy plus PSHCE as well! We will let the children give you more details next week as we don’t want to spoil the surprises.
