Sport at Shanklea

At Shanklea we hold the Silver Kite Mark from the Youth Sport Trust and the Platinum Kite Mark from the Sainsbury’s School Games. These awards credit Shanklea for their work carried out in PE.

The Sainsbury’s School Games Kitemark is a Government led award scheme launched in 2012 to reward schools for their commitment to development of competition across their school and into their community.

Shanklea is committed to raising standards in sport and Ofsted recognise this contribution:

‘The extra funds for sport and physical education have been invested in the local schools partnerships. This enables a variety of coaches to come into school and work alongside teachers in lessons so as to improve staff skills over the long term.’  We have links with lots of external clubs and children belong to various sporting teams.

Here at Shanklea we recognise children’s talents in regards to sporting excellence and provide a wide range of extra-curricular activities. Take a look at what children are getting up to this half term under the extra-curricular section.

Pupils also take part in festivals and other events, involving children from other schools and their families. Through sporting activities Shanklea are proud to announce that in recent years we have raised:

Jump Rope for Heart (British Heart foundation)- £2016.23

Junior Great North Run- £2858.44 + £1986.20

Children’s Cancer Run- £2642
