WW1 100 Year Anniversary

9th November 2018
On Monday 12th November 2018, Shanklea Primary School, will remember the bravery of those who fought, lived and died in the First World War. We will continue to remember and honour all those who served, died and were affected by the war both at home and overseas. All children are invited to come into school wearing a red t-shirt and poppy on Monday. Alternatively, they may wish to dress in period costume.

On the centenary of the Armistice we will give thanks for peace and for those that returned, and remember the sacrifice of the 800,000 soldiers who died. There will be a series of events to mark the centenary of the Armistice including a visit to the memorial in Smithy Square by our Year 6 children.

We will feature some of the ways the children commemorated this special day in next week’s newsletter. Thank you to everyone who has bought poppies in support of the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.
